What Thermal Image Scanning is NOT: What Thermal Image Scanning Is NotInfrared thermal imaging is a powerful tool, but it's important to understand its limitations. It enhances a home inspection, but it does not replace other diagnostic tools or eliminate all risks. 🔹 Not a Moisture Meter An infrared camera is not a moisture meter. It detects temperature differences--not moisture itself. However, it is extremely useful for identifying thermal anomalies that may suggest hidden moisture. Once those areas are identified, a moisture meter or other tools must be used to confirm the presence and source of moisture. 🔹 Not X-Ray Vision Thermal imaging does not allow you to see through walls like Superman. It does not reveal a clear image of what’s inside a wall. What it does do is identify subtle heat differences on surfaces, which may suggest hidden issues behind walls, ceilings, or floors. 🔹 Not a Silver Bullet Thermal imaging is not a catch-all solution. It works best when used in conjunction with other inspection techniques and tools. When applied properly, it has helped uncover problems that are often missed during a standard visual inspection—but it is not foolproof. 🔹 Not a Risk Eliminator Thermal imaging does not eliminate the risk of concealed defects. While it improves the chances of detecting hidden problems, no inspection method can guarantee that all issues will be found. Please Note: It is misleading to claim that thermal imaging detects moisture. What it actually detects are temperature variations that may suggest moisture.
